What is book leveling? Book leveling is the organization or categorization of books based on a predetermined level of education. This is an important factor in your child learning to read so as to challenge them with the level they should be at or a level above while not frustrating them with trying to have them read way above their level. Below I have listed several resources that give you the ability to determine the reading level of the books you are interested in buying or have previously bought.
The Lexile Framework for Reading is a scientific approach to measuring reading ability and the text demand of reading materials. The Lexile Framework involves a scale for measuring both reading ability of an individual and the text complexity of materials he or she encounters. The Lexile scale is like a thermometer, except rather than measuring temperature, the Lexile Framework measures a text’s complexity and a reader’s skill level.
